Dental Care for Your Pets

May 14th, 2008

4.jpgYour pets can also develop periodontal disease which is an infection of the tissue that surrounds the teeth. At age 3, their teeth need to be brushed regularly. Studies show that 80% of all cats and 70% of all cats have symptoms of dental disease. Given proper dental care, your pets can live an additional five more years. Just like humans, when pets eat, some of the food particles are stuck in between their teeth. Plaque will start to form and if not treated they can also have gingivitis. The main purpose of cleaning their mouth and brushing their teeth is for your pets to have healthy gums.

Natural Remedy to Kill Bacteria

May 2nd, 2008

1.jpgBacteria left untreated inside your mouth will cause gum diseases, toothache, bad breath and worst losing of teeth. Fortunately, there are natural remedies you can make to kill some if not all of these bacteria. Using herbs is one example and this formula would require 2 parts white oak bark herb, 1 part myrrh gum herb, ¾ part peppermint leaves, ½ part anise herb and a/8 part clove. All the herbs and leaves must be in powder form. Just mix everything and put in a container. What you will do is to use it just like how you will use your toothpaste. But you are not supposed to rinse them immediately to keep the active herb powders in your mouth.

What Causes Gums to Bleed?

April 28th, 2008

72.jpg

Most of the problems that cause bleeding gums and gum disease is plaque, a sticky film-like bacteria that covers the teeth and gums. It is formed by acids secreted by the mouth after eating. Plaque is found in spaces between your teeth. Gingivitis causes gum bleeding and if left untreated, it can lead to the more serious form of gum disease, periodontitis. It is long term infection which involves the progressive loss of the bone around teeth and may lead to loosening and eventual loss of teeth. Less serious causes of gum bleeding include: intake of drugs that causes the thinning of blood; and lack of vitamins and minerals, such as Vitamin C.

Bleeding Gums – Is it Serious?

April 22nd, 2008

71.jpg

Bleeding gums is often an indication of something much more serious, a warning that your body is trying to heal itself. Four major signs of bleeding gums are: swollen, painful or sensitive gums; blisters around the gums; discoloration of the gums; and the bleeding itself that occurs around the base of the teeth. Ignoring a bleeding gum problem may result in something worse as the bacteria from the infected area could pass through the bloodstream and can bring about more infections. The gums are the supporting structure of your teeth and not taking proper care of them will result to loss of teeth.

For best results, mix baking soda with a small amount of water to make a paste and use it to brush your teeth, giving special attention to the gum line. Dental Sealants

February 23rd, 2008

youngartistdenta.jpg

Put sealants on teeth. Dental sealants are thin, plastic films painted on chewing surfaces of the back teeth that serve as a host to food debris and plaque build-up. They are highly effective in the prevention of tooth decay. In fact, research has shown that sealants actually stop cavities when placed on top of a slightly decayed tooth because it seals off the supply of nutrients to the bacteria that causes the cavity. Sealants are especially beneficial for children because their newly erupted, permanent teeth are most susceptible to cavities, however patients of all ages can benefit from dental sealants.
